Cyber Risk Management
A controls assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of the controls your organisation relies on — policies, procedures and technical controls — carried out to find where they are missing, misconfigured, or not functioning as intended across your IT infrastructure.
It combines manual and automated methods rather than relying on either alone: vulnerability scanning against your systems, penetration testing to confirm which weaknesses are genuinely exploitable.
Code review where source is in scope, and a read of the policies and procedures that sit behind the technical controls.
Each finding is tied to the control it belongs to. The result is not a list of issues but a statement about every control in scope — in place, partly in place, or absent — and what that means for the environment it protects.
When you need this
The output is structured so that it can be used by the people who review your controls, not only by the team that commissioned the work: what was tested, what was found, and which control the finding sits against.
So a finding can be checked rather than taken on trust.
So the work that closes the most exposure comes first instead of arriving as a flat list.
What needs an owner's judgement, and what needs a technician.
Scoping. Agree the environment, the controls in question, and who holds the evidence for each of them. Evidence collection. Gather the policies, configurations and access needed to test the controls, working with the people who own them.
Assessment. Manual and automated testing against the agreed scope, with interviews where a control's operation cannot be read from configuration alone. Findings review. Walk through what was found, correct anything that was misread, and agree the remediation order before the report is closed.
